BREAD MAKER CHALLAH

* PREP TIME: 5 MINUTES 

* RISE TIME: 30-60 MINUTES

* COOK TIME: 30 MINUTES

Ingredients

• 1 cup warm water

• 1/4 cup oil

• 1/4 cup honey

• 1/4 cup sugar

• 1/2 egg (I crack 1 egg into a small bowl, mix it and reserve half of it  pour the half out for egg wash, about 1/8th of a cup)

•  1 teaspoon salt 

•  3 1/4 cup flour

• 1 1/2 packets of yeast = 3 3/8 teaspoons of yeast 

DIRECTIONS

1.  Place ingredients in the bread maker in the following order: water, oil, honey, sugar, egg, salt, flour

2.  Make a little well in the flour (not breaking through to the liquid) and add yeast

3.  Place breadmaker in dough cycle

4.  Remove from breadmaker and split the dough in half. Place into 2 greased disposable loaf tins (can also be made into 4 small challahs)

5. Let rise on top of oven (or other warm spot) for 30 minutes to an hour.

6. Brush with egg wash (remaining half egg)

7. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes


Tip:  Put the loaf tins on a cookie sheet or pizza stone so that they brown on the bottom through the tin
